Food and Nutrition Services, formerly referred to as the "Food Stamps Program," is available to the residents of Hendersonville and the surrounding county of Henderson in North Carolina who meet certain eligibility requirements. The North Carolina Food and Nutrition Services Program is funded by the federal government and is administered by the state of North Carolina through the individual county's Department of Social Services. Since the City of Hendersonville is located within Henderson County, individuals seeking food and nutrition assistance will be working directly with the Henderson County Department of Social Services throughout the application and benefit periods.

      Go to North Carolina's Electronic Pre-Assessment Screening Service (ePass) website and click on the "Am I Potentially Eligible?" section at the bottom of the screen to find out if you are eligible to receive food and nutrition benefits from the state of North Carolina (see Resources). The benefits that you are eligible to receive are dependent upon numerous factors including your income, your household composition, citizenship or immigration status and work requirements.

      Obtain and complete the Application for Food and Nutrition Services. This application can be found on the North Carolina Department of Social Services website (see Resources), or it can be obtained by calling the Henderson County Department of Social Services at 828-697-5500 or visiting the department's office in person. Provide any requested personal information about yourself and the members of your household on the application. Be prepared to submit additional documentation such as a photo ID, birth certificate or bank statements with your application.

      Submit your completed application for food and nutrition services, along with any required supplemental documentation, to the Henderson County Department of Social Services at the following address:

      Look for a determination notice of your benefit eligibility within 30 days of the date that you submitted your application.
