How to Remove the Forearm From a Remington 760

The Remington 760 is a strange bird as far as rifles go. Rather than use the more traditional "bolt-action" or "semi-automatic" design, the Model 760 "Gamemaster" rifle operates off of a pump-action design similar to pump shotguns. The Gamemaster was designed as a replacement for the older Model 141, and was later replaced in turn by the Model 7600. Occasionally, you may find yourself needing to remove the forearm from the rifle--possibly because it has gotten gummed up, or simply needs to be replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Rack the pump-action back several times to eject any shells that may have been loaded in the magazine. Clearing your weapon of live ammunition should always be your first step whenever you are working on a firearm.

    • 2

Locate the single screw at the very front of the forearm assembly. This is the screw that keeps the forearm from sliding off.

    • 3

Loosen and remove the screw with your screwdriver. The exact type of screw will be different depending on what model you own, so you should have a Phillips and a flat-head screwdriver handy to cover all contingencies.

    • 4

Slide the forearm forward and off of the rail.
