How to Make Thick Wet Hair Wavy thumbnail
Get soft, bouncy waves while you sleep.

There are a number of ways to achieve wavy hair but the most common is to use heat styling tools like curling irons or straighteners. Styling with heat requires dry hair so if you would like to style your hair while wet, a heat-free styling method is your best bet. Fortunately, braiding thick, wet hair produces a soft, beautiful wave that is simple to do and less damaging than using heat. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Wash and condition your hair thoroughly. Allow your hair to air-dry until it is damp but not soaking wet.

    • 2

Pump a quarter-sized amount of smoothing serum into the palm of your hand and rub your hands together lightly. Distribute the serum evenly over your hair, concentrating on the tips.

    • 3

Brush your hair to remove any tangles and to further smooth the serum through your entire head of hair. Divide the hair into four equal portions with two in the front and two in the back.

    • 4

Twist each hair section of hair into a loose knot then clip to your head. Leave one section loose.

    • 5

Braid the free section of hair in a loose braid. Secure the braid in place using an elastic band. Repeat on all four sections of hair.

    • 6

Allow the braids to remain in place for at least three hours, preferably overnight. After this period, loosen and remove the braids.

    • 7

Run your fingers through the waves to separate and break them up slightly. Spray your hair lightly with hairspray to hold the waves.

Tips & Warnings

  • Braid your hair loosely for loose waves or tightly for crimped, tight waves.
