How to Repair Soft Latex Foam
Soft latex foam is used in multiple craft and household applications. Because of the softness of its material, latex foam easily becomes damaged and torn. Latex naturally sticks to some adhesives, which eases the repair process. Many brands of foam adhesive are available online and in craft stores.
Instructions
-
Rips and tears
-
1
Brush away any debris from both sides of the tear.
-
2
Put on rubber gloves to protect your hands.
-
-
3
Spray foam adhesive onto both sides of the tear.
-
4
Hold the two sides closed until the adhesive dries. The time will depend on the temperature and the amount used. The process should not take more than a few minutes.
-
5
Tug the two sides slightly to test the bond. If the pieces come apart in any areas, add more adhesive. Repeat the process.
Missing Foam Chunks
-
6
Retrieve the missing chunk if possible. If not, cut a plug out of a matching piece of latex foam. This foam can be purchased at furniture upholstery companies.
-
7
Test the fit and orientation of the chunk or plug in the damaged foam. If the edges do not line up, trim as needed.
-
8
Remove any dirt or debris that could interfere with the adhesive bond.
-
9
Spray foam adhesive into the damaged area.
-
10
Insert the chunk or plug and hold it flush with the foam surface until the adhesive dries.
