Llama fiber is versatile and attractive.

Llama fiber, also referred to as llama wool, comes in a variety of colors and shades. The color choice, versatility and soft appearance appeal to weavers who make the fiber into clothing, rugs and wall hangings. The wool is quite durable due to the fiber strength from its unique protein structure. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. General Care

    • 1

Mount your wall hanging on a wall that does not receive direct sunlight. Sunlight fades and discolors fibers, making them brittle over time.

    • 2

Remove the wall-hanging monthly and shake out accumulated dust.

    • 3

Vacuum the hanging with a brushless attachment every couple of months. Llama fiber has a low electrostatic charge. This means it attracts less dust and lint, so you do not need to vacuum it very often. Use an attachment that does not have a brush or bristles to prevent pulling out fibers.

    Yearly Care

    • 4

Check your wall hanging for dirt accumulation before washing it to see if a wash is necessary. Llama fiber has a natural resistance to stains, so a wash may not be necessary. Washing restores the nap ("fluff") of the fiber and gives the hanging a fresh look.

    • 5

Wash your hanging by completely wetting it in cold water. Do this in the tub if your hanging is large. Ensure the hanging is completely submerged until wet since the fibers resist water for a few minutes. Use a small amount of shampoo or a mild detergent to hand wash the piece.

    • 6

Rinse it well with cold water until all the soap is out. Wring as much water out as possible. Lay it flat on the top of your drying rack and allow it to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not wash the hanging in a washing machine, with hot water or with bleach. Any of these can damage the structure of the fibers.
