How to Impress a Guy Without Cool Clothes
First impressions are important, but an impression is made by more than cool clothes. Your face, posture, physique, voice, attitude, and the way you interact with the people around you speaks far more loudly than clothing. Most guys know relatively little about fashion, so impressing one is a matter of creating the right chemistry and demonstrating all of your positive assets.

Keep your clothing simple and let your other assets shine through. Wearing something outrageous or extremely seductive generally scares off most guys, so sticking with basics like jeans, simple dresses and skirts shifts the attention to your looks and your personality. Would you rather have a guy distracted by your patent leather boots or staring into your eyes? Play up your best features.

Emphasize the things that you have in common. The key to creating chemistry is to demonstrate a genuine shared interest in something. Ask what he likes to do, what kind of music he likes or places he's traveled to. Make eye contact while he talks; everyone wants to feel they're being listened to. Talking about shared interests can lead to getting together to pursue those interests together later on. Never fake an interest in something. The truth will eventually surface and you will look like a fraud.

Maintain your cool by reminding yourself that things will progress naturally if you give them time. Being overeager scares most guys off. In an article for Cosmopolitan magazine, anthropologist Helen Fisher, Ph.D., points out that most men want to pursue women. "Sometimes surprise contact is more likely to trigger his brain's romantic-love circuit," Fisher says. In other words, let him know that you're interested in him, but don't let him see you being giddy, and he may be more likely to pay attention.
