How to Install a Bestop Safari Top thumbnail
The Bestop Safari top fits most Jeep Wrangler models.

The Bestop Safari top is an accessory that Jeep owners buy to enhance the appearance of their vehicle. The top can shield the driver from most weather conditions but does not ensure that the driver will be withheld in the vehicle if an accident occurred. The Bestop Safari top comes in two different model styles: one being for Jeep Wrangler models years 1992 through 1995 and models 1997 through 2002. Bestop Safari top installation can be performed by the owner of the vehicle. The top can be purchased from an off-road shop or online website.

Instructions

  1. Jeep Wrangler Models 1992--1995

    • 1

Drape the top over the sport bar on the vehicle. Insert the front of the top into the windshield retainer.

    • 2

Wrap the long web strap that is sewn to the center flap of the top around the horizontal tube of the sport bar. Pull it toward the front of the vehicle.

    • 3

Thread the strap through footman loop. The footman loop is located above the windshield. Pull the end of the strap back and thread it through the buckle on the strap. Be sure not to pull the strap tight.

    • 4

Pull the straps that are sewn to the rear corners of the top toward the rear. Wrap the straps under the seat belt assembly mounts and around the rear sport bar.

    • 5

Pull the strap tight toward the buckles on the straps. Thread the ends of the straps through the buckles and pull them tight.

    • 6

Wrap the loop strips around the sport bar and fasten them to each other using the hooks. Three pairs of loop strips and hooks are located on each side of the top. Be sure that all six hooks and loops are pulled as tight as possible.

    • 7

Wrap the web strap that is sewn to the top at the rear of the door opening (near the center seam of the top) around the horizontal bar and under the vertical sport bar (located at the rear door). Thread the web strap through the buckle and pull the strap tight.

    • 8

Check all the straps on the vehicle. Make sure that the straps are as tight as possible.

Slide the plastic ridge (located on the upper front of the top) into the windshield channels. Work the top into position all the way across the front of the vehicle. Wrap the loop strips that are located on the front corners of the top around the horizontal bar above the door. Fasten them to each other using the hooks.

    • 10

Drape the fabric over the sport bar with the long tails of the straps that are on the side of the top on the front of the sport bar. Wrap the flap with the long center strap that is located inside the top around the sport bar. Pull the strap toward the windshield. Thread the strap through the footman loop located on the windshield frame. Pull the end of the strap back and through the buckle. Tighten the strap to secure it.

    • 11

Wrap the strap that is sewn to the side of the top around the sport bar. Thread the strap through the buckle on the side of the top. Wrap the loop strips located on the top just in front of the sport bar. Fasten them to each other using the hooks.

    • 12

Slip the two plastic strips that are sewn to the side of the top onto the channel in the door side rail. If the vehicle does not have a door side rail, wrap the inside and outside straps that are sewn to the inside of the top above the door opening around the horizontal sport bar and fasten them to each other using the hooks.

    • 13

Wrap the straps that are sewn to the rear corners of the top around the sport bar and under the seat-belt mounts. Thread the ends of the straps through the buckles and pull tight. Check all the straps on the vehicle. Make sure that all the straps are as tight as possible.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is best to install the Bestop Safari top at temperatures higher then 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures below this can cause the top to contract an inch or two, making it hard to fit the vehicle.

  • Because of how the top is packed for shipping, it contracts and becomes wrinkled. The top will relax and the wrinkles will disappear several days after installation.
