How to Bypass a Password in the BIOS on a Laptop

If you password protect your computer's BIOS and then forget to write down that password, you may not be able to enter your computer's BIOS to make configuration changes. That is, unless you use the BIOS backdoor password that was set by your computer manufacturer. All laptop computer BIOS have one of these backdoor passwords, and they are unique based on which company actually made the BIOS chip inside your machine.

      Turn on your laptop computer.

      Tap once on the keyboard key required by your computer manufacturer to enter your BIOS. This key changes depending on the actual company that manufactured your hardware. The key will be printed in the window on screen. You can also find it on the Internet.

      Type your BIOS backdoor password into the password prompt that is now filling your monitor. The backdoor password is also unique to the company that manufactured your BIOS. Oftentimes the company that made your computer also manufactured your BIOS, but sometimes a different company altogether made the chip. Consult your computer's instruction manual for the name of the company that made your BIOS, look at a chart containing a list of backdoor passwords and type the appropriate password into the box.

      Hit "Enter" to bypass the password and enter your laptop computer BIOS.
