How to Check Online for an IRS Refund
Every year millions of Americans file tax returns. To keep up with the demand for status updates on expected refund checks, the IRS maintains a refund-status page online. On this Web page you can check to see if your tax forms have been received by the IRS, the expected refund amount, the actual refund amount and the estimated date the refund will be issued. Once the IRS has received your tax return, you can check for a status update on the tax refund usually within 72 hours if you e-filed, or within three to four weeks if you mailed the tax return.
