How to: iPhone to Stereo
Because of its extensive software catalog and ability to play movies and browse the Internet, it's easy to forget that the iPhone stems from Apple's range of MP3 music players. The large memory capacities make it possible to store a vast library of music on an iPhone, and having access to that music through a stereo system is a practical way to listen without the need for headphones.

Connect a 3.5mm jack-to-phono cable to the iPhone's headphone socket.

Connect the other end of the cable to the stereo's line input. This will be twin phono sockets colored white and red.

Turn the stereo and iPhone on, and launch the iPhone's iPod application. Tturn the volume down on the iPhone and adjust it incrementally to avoid distortion during playback on the stereo.
iPhone Audio Dock

Sit the iPhone in the audio dock.

Connect a dual phono-to-phono lead between the iPhone audio dock and the stereo's line input, matching the colors of the phono plugs to the colors of the phono sockets on either end.

Turn the iPhone and the stereo on. The iPhone will automatically detect the audio dock and output the music through its base connector.

Tips & Warnings
The colored phono plugs and sockets determine stereo channels. Red is the right audio channel, and white is the left channel.
Make sure the iPhone's volume is turned down when connecting via the headphone socket to avoid overloading the stereo's line input.
