How to Crimp an Ethernet Cable Connector

The plastic clip on the end of an Ethernet cable is called a "connector." If you're making your own lengths of Ethernet cable, you will need to insert the individual wires on the inside of the cable into the bottom of the connector. Before you can actually use this homemade cable, however, the connector will need to be crimped so that it becomes permanently attached to the internal wires. This will require an Ethernet cable "Crimping" device.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the plastic Ethernet cable connector into the Ethernet input on your cable crimper. Often wire strippers will also have one of these Ethernet inputs for crimping purposes if you don't want to purchase a dedicated crimping device.

    • 2

Squeeze the two handles on the crimping device together to crimp the connector onto the Ethernet cable.

    • 3

Remove the Ethernet cable from the crimper. The connector has been crimped and it is now permanently attached to the cable itself.
