How to Record Flash Audio Off the Internet
Many Flash-based games and movies have music or sounds that may be difficult to find anywhere else on the Internet, so the next best thing to obtaining these sounds would be to record them using special audio software. By using software like Audacity, GoldWave or Power Sound Editor, it's simple to record the music while it's playing in the background to create a usable audio file for use on a PC or music player.
Instructions
-
Obtaining and Installing the Audio Editing Software
-
1
Download the audio editing software of your choice to the desktop. Many free and paid types of this software can be found.
-
2
Double-click the newly downloaded installation file to start the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the audio editing software installation.
-
-
3
Double-click on the newly installed audio editing software shortcut on the desktop or find it under the "Start" menu in the "Programs" directory to open the software.
Setting Up the Recording Process
-
4
Right-click the "Volume" icon in the system tray at the bottom right of the screen.
-
5
Open the "Recording Device" screen. On Windows XP/2000 this can be done by finding the "Control Panel" under the "Start" menu and double-clicking on "Sounds" and "Audio Devices." Click the "Audio tab and, under the "Recording Devices" option, select "Advanced." Change the type of recording device to "Wave In." On Vista/7 you will need to find the control panel under the "Start" menu and double-click on "Sounds." Under the "Recording" tab, right-click the "Line In" option and "Set to Default." These steps will enable the audio editing software to record what the computer is playing.
-
6
Go back to the audio editing software and click "File" and then "New." It may ask you how long to make the file; this is up to you, but a good time is usually 10 minutes long.
Recording the Audio
-
7
Click the "Record" button.
-
8
Browse to the Flash movie you want to record the audio from and play it.
-
9
Go back to the audio editing software and you will see the recording process recording a design on the window. This means that it's recording what's playing in the background. When you've recorded what you need, click the "Stop" button to stop the recording process.
-
10
Click and drag to highlight the portion of the recording that was unused and press the "Delete" key on the keyboard to remove the unused portion.
-
11
Click "File" and then "Save As" to save the file in the format you'd like--usually .mp3 for use in audio players--to the desktop or folder of your choice.
