Office chairs are designed to be dismantled easily.

Office chairs differ in design from model to model, but are generally composed of similar parts assembled in a similar matter. There are few tools needed and it will not take very long to dismantle the chair. Make sure you save all of the parts and take note of how the chair came apart so that you can assemble it back together easily.

  • Screwdriver set

      Turn the chair on its side and pull out the wheels, if it has them. If the chair wheel don't come free easily, look for a locking mechanism, release it and pull the wheels free. If there is no lock, try using the mallet to gradually tap the wheels until they become unstuck.

      Move the adjustable lever to extend the chair shaft so that there is easier access to where the base mounts onto the seat.

      Use a wrench to remove the bolts connecting the base to the seat. Pull the seat free from the base and place it on the floor.

      Use a screwdriver to pry off any plastic screws or bolt covers from the armrest. These will most often be found close to where the armrest connects to the seat. Remove the armrests by undoing these fasteners with the appropriate tool.
