How to Draw Santa Claus Pictures

How to Draw Santa Claus Pictures thumbnail
Learning to draw Santa is easy.

Christmas is a time that we usually spend a lot of money on presents, food and decorations for the house. Learning to draw a Santa could help you to save money by making your own cards (or getting the children to do them) or hanging decorations. Santa has very distinctive features and colors but don't be afraid to experiment and try different colors or even make a funky multicolored Santa. If you want to add a bit of sparkle to your finished drawing just paste a little glue on Santa's coat and hat and sprinkle on some glitter. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Draw Santa's Head and Beard

Draw a circle, using your pencil, in the middle of your page approximately 2 inches wide. In the middle of your circle draw a semi-circle (like a little smile) to make a nose.

    • 2

Draw a curved line coming from each side of the nose to the edge of your circle. You are now drawing Santa's mustache. Now find the mid point in your nose and draw another curved line coming from that point, underneath the lines you have just drawn and get it to bow further down on each side and then meet the upper line at the edge of the circle.

    • 3

Draw another semi-circle (little smile) directly underneath the nose and the mid-point of the mustache. This is Santa's mouth.

    • 4

Find two points a little bit above the nose where you want the eyes to be, just gently mark the location with your pencil. Now around each point draw a half moon shape (this time inverse, so like a down-turned mouth). In the middle of each half moon draw a black filled in circle. Santa now should have eyes. Above the eyes just draw a line above each and then some a half cloud shape. This should help to give him his friendly Santa look.

    • 5

Find the point that is about halfway down on each outer edge of the circle (should line up approximately with his nose). From one edge start drawing a undulating line going downwards; you are now creating his beard -- imagine you are drawing a rather large oblong cloud. When you think his beard is long enough go a little way across with your undulating line and then go upward to the point you marked on the edge of the circle.

Draw Santa's Body, Hat and Sack

Go from the point that you have just reached at the edge of the circle and draw a curved line that is about 1/2 an inch further out than Santa's beard. Do this on each side. You should now have a body (we are not drawing all of Santa just his head and body).

    • 7

Draw a two parallel straight lines going downward, about a 1/4 of an inch apart on each side of Santa's body. The first line on each side should just touch Santa's beard.

    • 8

Go to the top of one side of Santa's beard and going up and around Santa's head, draw an undulating line (like a cloud again, but smaller this time) about a 1/4 of an inch from the head and meeting Santa's beard on the other side. This will be the rim of Santa's hat.

    • 9

Trace with your finger from the outer edge of the eye on the left side up to the top of the rim you have just drawn. From this point draw a large curved semi-circle that goes out and past the edge of Santa's body. Now trace from the outer edge of his right eye with your finger to the top of the rim, and from this point draw another curved line that meets at a point the line you have just drawn. At the point draw a little circle. You should now have a perfect Santa hat.

    • 10

Find the top of Santa's shoulder and from this point, on each side, draw a straight line about 1/2 an inch long. From the end of that line, on each side, draw a line going down until it meets Santa's body. Underneath the horizontal line draw another parallel line on each side about 1/4 of an inch underneath. Now draw several vertical lines in-between your two horizontal straight lines. This is Santa's sack. In the sack you can add drawings of toys, bears, candy, presents or anything else you choose.

Color Santa's hat and coat red. You can also color Santa's cheeks red if you want to make them rosy.

    • 12

Color Santa's braces and sack black. You can also color his mouth and the circles in his eyes black.

    • 13

Add cotton wool to his beard, mustache, hat bobble and eyebrows if you want to. Color the presents any color you wish.
