How to Make Vanilla Sauce
Vanilla sauce can complement any type of dessert. You can dip fruits, drizzle it on pastries or ice cream, or serve it with bread puddings. Making homemade vanilla sauce is inexpensive and ensures fresh quality. It's easy to make, and most of the ingredients are standard items you likely have in your refrigerator or pantry. Things You'll Need
- 3 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 4 whole eggs
- 5 egg yolks
- 1 vanilla bean, split, or 7 drops of vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt (optional)

Beat the eggs and egg yolks in a large, stainless steel mixing bowl. You may mix it by hand with a whisk or with an electric mixer.

Slowly stir in the milk and the cream. If you're using an electric mixer, slow down the mixing speed to avoid splashing.

Pour water into a large pot. The water level should be around two inches. Place the stainless steel mixing bowl on top of the large pot. Bring the water to a small boil. Continuously whisk the mixture as the water is boiling.

Blend in the butter, sugar and vanilla bean or vanilla extract. Whisk or mix until the mixture is smooth. Add a pinch of salt if you like.

Take the bowl off the pot and turn off the stove. Set aside until cool before using.
