Locate a Vietnam veteran on the Internet.

Bugles blaring, shots firing and saluting are all familiar sites during tributes to fallen military soldiers, prisoners of war and others missing in action. Each Nov. 11, families, friends and fellow comrades gather to pay homage to Vietnam veterans. Many people want to contact Vietnam veterans to reminisce about the war or simply to gain insight into their lives. Fortunately, the Internet provides ample opportunity to make this quest possible.

      Gather essential information for each Vietnam veteran. Locate his first and last name, branch of service, platoon/group/squadron number and the approximate year of service.

      Log on to Vetfriends.com. Select "Click Here" and complete your profile information. You will have the opportunity to connect with more than 1 million members, as of October 2010, to gain access to military personnel and Vietnam veterans. There is also an option to search for veterans, active duty and reservists military personnel. Click "Search for Veterans and Military Personnel" on the left-hand side of the web page. When prompted, enter the first and last name of the veteran and his branch of service. This feature might require a small fee, since members are required to upgrade services, to gain access to the records after performing this search.

      Contact professors via phone or email in the history department at a local college. Many history professors have interests in current and historical aspects of the military, including Vietnam veterans.
