How to Add an Author Tag in Microsoft Expression thumbnail
Add an author tag through Microsoft Expression using page properties or HTML code.

Adding an author tag in Microsoft Expression is typically done in one of two ways; through the page properties of the desired Web page or by adding an HTML meta tag in the <head> section of the HTML code. Ideally, these tags help improve the website's visibility in search engines with the hope of bringing more traffic to the site. In reality, it may or may not make a difference because the content and knowledge of SEO (search engine optimization) is what ultimately helps increase traffic and search visibility.

Instructions

  1. Page Properties

    • 1

      Open Microsoft Expression Web. Click "File" then "Open" and select the desired Web page. Click "OK" to open it. Even if the Web page is still being created, the author tag can be added at any time.

    • 2

      Right click in the Web page in Expression Web, hover the mouse arrow over the option for "Page Properties" then click once. A small window will pop up with several tabs along the top: "General," "Formatting," "Advanced," "Custom" and "Language." Click on "Custom" then click "Add" from the right side of the box.

    • 3

      Type in the word "Author" for the section labeled "Name" and then in the section labeled "Value" type the author's name. The author of the Web page is the person who created it. Click "OK" and notice that the new "Author" tag is in the "Page Properties" specifications now. Click "OK" again in the "Page Properties" box to add the tag to the site. Click "Save" or go to "File" then select "Save" to save the work.

    HTML Meta Tag

    • 4

      Open Microsoft Expression Web. Click "File" then "Open" and select the desired Web page. Click "OK" to open it. The author tag can be added at any time.

    • 5

      Click on "Split" beneath the Web page work space. There are three options for viewing Web pages while working on them in Expression Web: "Design," "Split" and "Code." Clicking on "Split" allows the designer to view both the designed Web page and the HTML code section.

    • 6

      Locate the <head> section, which is at the top of the HTML code section. Copy the following HTML code, replacing the _________ with the name of the author:

      <META NAME="author" CONTENT="_________">

      In Microsoft Expression Web, scroll down in the split-view until the "<title>" appears. This will be followed by the title of the Web page, for example:

      <title>Super Awesome Website!</title>

      </head>

      Click after the </title> but before the closing </head> and place the cursor between the two. Press "Ctrl" and "v" on the keyboard to paste the above meta tag into the website's HTML code. Change the name of the author if that has yet to be done.

      So now, the code should look like this example:

      <title>Super Awesome Website!</title>

      <META NAME="author" CONTENT="John Smith">

      </head>

      Click "Save" or click "File" and select "Save" from the program menu.
