How to Unlock the Stereo by Code on a 1999 Saturn

The factory stereo in the 1999 Saturn will not work after being removed or after the battery has been disconnected and reconnected. This anti-theft measure makes the stereo less desirable to steal. When the stereo is reinstalled or the battery has been reconnected, the stereo will not work until the correct code has been entered. If you don't have the access code, you will have to get it from a GM dealer or by going online. Proof of ownership is required before the code will be given.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain the stereo's access code from your original paperwork, a GM dealership or an online code-retrieval service. The code will be four digits.

    • 2

Put the key in the ignition and turn to the "On" position. You do not need to start the Saturn. The stereo will display "LOC."

    • 3

Press the "HR" (hours) button until the "LOC" disappears and "000" appears. Continue pressing "HR" repeatedly until the first two digits of the unlock code appear on the display.

    • 4

Press the "MN" (minutes) button on the stereo repeatedly until the last two digits of the unlock code appear on the display.

    • 5

Press the "AM/FM" button to enter the code displayed and activate the stereo.

Tips & Warnings

  • After eight unsuccessful attempts to enter the code, the stereo will go into "INOP" mode and will not allow additional attempts for one hour.
