How to Remove Accountant Review From QuickBooks
There are two completely different applications in the QuickBooks program that are known by a variety of names. There is the accountant's copy, which is the temporary company file created so that the accountant can review and make changes to the file while the file is still in use by the business owner. Then there is the Client Data Review, which is a step by step check-list for the small business accountant to go through when checking the company file for mistakes or problems with the accounting. One can be removed, the other can be closed by exiting the window.

Removing the Accountant Copy Restrictions (Review)
-
1
Click the "File" button in the top menu bar. When an accountant's copy is created, it involves choosing a closing date. The closing date divides the QuickBooks company file into two sections. The section prior to the closing date which is worked on by the accountant and the section after the closing date which is worked on by the business owner who continues to enter current transactions. The accountant cannot add transactions dated after the closing date and the business owner cannot add transactions dated prior to the closing date unless the accountant copy restrictions are removed.
-
2
Scroll down to the "Accountant's Copy" option and highlight it with the cursor. When the Accountant's Copy window opens, scroll down to the Client Activities option, then locate the "Remove Restrictions" button. Click here and at the prompt, click "Ok." The restrictions have now been removed and you can work in transactions dated before the closing date.

3
Contact your accountant before attempting this. If your accountant has spent hours fixing your company file only for you to remove the restrictions, it now makes double work for your accountant, as the accountant's copy she has is now not able to be imported into your QuickBooks file. If your accountant is not done with the work, and it is urgent that you be able to enter or change a transaction from prior to the closing date, see if she can send you what she has completed to import into your company file, and then create another accountant's copy when the urgency has passed.
Removing the Client Data Review for Accountants

Click on the "Accountant" button located in the top menu bar. When the menu opens, scroll down to the "Client Data Review" option and click. The CDR as it is called is an accountant specific tool that is part of the QuickBooks software in all versions dated from 2009 on up.
-
5
Choose the date range for the review and the review basis. Click the "Modify Review" button and a page opens with several areas for an accountant to scroll through to quickly check the balances. It is the accountant, not the business owner, that will utilize this feature. The CDR should never be opened by the business owner. If it has been you will have to close out of it without changing anything.
-
6
Close the CDR. You do this by clicking on the "Close" button in the lower right corner of the window or by clicking on the small "X" in the upper right corner of the window. This will remove the CDR from the screen. Attempting to remove this review from the QuickBooks program will require going into the code located in the QuickBooks Software folders. Doing so can cause problems with the functionality of QuickBooks and is not recommended.
Remove the screen, not the tool.
