How to Convert Laptop USB 1.1 to USB 2.0
Give your USB ports the compatibility needed to get the speed and functionality that most devices require by upgrading from USB 1.1 to USB 2.0. USB 2.0 has transfer rates that at an average of 40 times faster than 1.1. newer machines come equipped with USB 2.0 compatibility, but that doesn't mean that you cannot enjoy these increased speeds by upgrading with the right drivers. If you haven't ever tried to upgrade from USB 1.1 to USB 2.0 before, don't worry. With the right instruction, you can have USB 2.0 speed in no time at all.

Download the USB 2.0 drivers from the website of your laptop's motherboard manufacturer. Save the drivers to a location that will be easy to remember on your hard drive.

Update the USB drivers by first going into Device Manager. Click on "Start," right-click "My Computer," select "Properties" and "Device manager" from the list that appears.

Double-click on "Universal Serial Bus Controllers," right-click on the USB ports listed and select "Update driver" from the list of options.

Choose "Locate and Install Drivers From A Specific Location." This will allow Windows to perform a search on your hard drive for the drivers that were downloaded. Click the "Browse" button on that screen, then select the driver location from the list that appears. The USB 2.0 drivers will then begin their installation. After completion, your USB ports will have 2.0 compatibility.
