Indoor flooding, whether it is caused by natural disasters or occurrences such as leaky or burst pipes, sometimes necessitates the rental of water extraction equipment. While hiring a professional is usually recommended for large scale jobs, many people find that they are able to tackle small-scale water extraction projects themselves, provided that they rent the proper equipment. Does this Spark an idea?

Determine the type of equipment needed.

There are several different types of water extraction equipment available. For small amounts of water, a squeegee for hardwood or tile floors and a machine called a Light Wand (similar in appearance to a small carpet cleaning machine) for carpeted surfaces are the most common types of equipment. Machines designed to slightly warm carpeted surfaces in order to better facilitate extraction of water, and machines designed to extract large amounts of water at one time are also available. If you aren't sure of the type of equipment you need, ask a professional or your equipment rental service.

      Locate a rental company.

Businesses specializing in the rental of commercial cleaning equipment exist in many cities. When you call, be sure to specify the type of flooring and the extent of the water damage. Call around to obtain the best prices and ask whether or not the company also rents high-powered fans to facilitate the drying process.

      Review the agreement carefully.

The length of the agreement, the rate for late equipment return, and the products and/or accessories included in the rental price should be noted before you agree to sign the contract. If you are unsure as to how to use the equipment properly, ask before you take it home, as most rental agreements will hold you liable for accidental damage due to misuse.
