The media organization Associated Press is a major provider of news stories to various media outlets. The AP uses a definitive style in punctuation and grammar for these stories, and produces a stylebook that has been adopted by most members of the organization. This stylebook offers guidance on how to refer to various forms of art, including song titles.

Place quotation marks around the title of a song in a normal sentence. For example, the Madonna song "Express Yourself" would be written as listed here.

Use single quotation marks for a song title inside a spoken quote. For example: Madonna said, "I enjoy performing 'Express Yourself' while on tour."

List titles of other works of art, such as poems, films and speeches, in quotes as well.
