How to Add Desktop Icons to the Taskbar
The method used to add desktop icons to the taskbar in Windows 7 is different from the method used to add desktop icons to the taskbar in Windows XP and Vista. In Windows XP and Vista, the only area of the taskbar you can add desktop icons to is on the taskbar's "Quick Launch" toolbar. By default, Windows 7 does not have a Quick Launch toolbar on the taskbar because Windows 7 allows you to "pin" desktop icons to any area of the taskbar. However, if you'd like, you can add a Quick Launch bar to the Windows 7 taskbar.
Instructions
-
Add Desktop Icon to the Taskbar's Quick Launch Section (For XP or Vista)
-
1
Right-click on an empty area of the taskbar. A shortcut menu will pop up. Point to "Toolbars." If you do not see a check mark next to the "Quick Launch" option, click "Quick Launch." The Quick Launch section of the taskbar is on the left side of the taskbar, right next to the "Start" button.
-
2
Make sure the taskbar is not locked by once again right-clicking on an empty area of the taskbar. If you see a check mark next to the "Lock the Taskbar" option, click "Lock the Taskbar" to remove the check mark.
