How to Disable an XP Startup Password

If you are tired of having to log-in with a password whenever you start Windows XP, you can disable the start-up password. Doing so will allow your computer to boot up directly into your user account. In order to disable the need for the start-up password, you must have only one user account registered on your computer system with no assigned password and you must activate the welcome screen.

      Click the "Start" menu, then click the "Control Panel" shortcut located on the right-hand side of the "Start" menu.

      Double-click the "User Accounts" shortcut located in the "Control Panel" window.

      Click the "Use the Welcome screen for fast and easy logon" check box, then click "Ok."

      Double-click the "User Accounts" shortcut located in the "Control Panel" window.

      Click the user account in the "User Account" listing.

      Click "Remove my password," then enter your password into the "Type your current password" dialog box that appears.

      Click "Remove my password" to remove your password from your user account. Next time you start-up your system, it will boot up directly into your user account, with no need to enter the start-up password.
