How to Mount Motorcycle Chocks

Motorcycle tire chocks install in a trailer or a truck bed to hold the front wheel steady in bike transportation. When the front wheel is in a straight forward position in a tire chock and the motorcycle is tied down, the motorcycle handlebars will not turn and the bike will not fall in either direction because of shifting weight. Some motorcycle tire chocks are removable to allow full access to the trailer or truck bed when not transporting a bike. Different brands of chocks have a slightly different installation method but all have the same purpose.

Instructions

    • 1

Place wheel chock upright on a flat surface. Insert a stud from the bottom of the chock into each of the back two holes in the chock. Place a screw in the top of each stud and tighten them clockwise with a screwdriver.

    • 2

Measure the width of the trailer or truck at the front of the surface. Mark the center of the width to center the chock.

    • 3

Set the wheel chock on the installation area with its center on the center mark. Trace around the studs with a pencil to mark the position. Remove the wheel chock from the area.

    • 4

Set the mounting plates over the marks on the surface so that they center over the two marks. Trace the four screw positions onto the surface. Remove the mounting plates.

    • 5

Drill a hole in each of the four screw marks with a ¼-inch drill bit.

    • 6

Set the two spacer plates on the surface aligning the screw holes. The spacer plates have an oval opening in the center.

    • 7

Set the two mounting plates on top of the spacer plates aligning the screw holes with the round hole facing the rear of the trailer or truck. Place a screw in each of the two holes per side of the chock.

    • 8

Slide a washer and lock nut on the protruding end of the screws from underneath the trailer or truck. Turn the lock nut clockwise by hand until it is tight. Insert a screwdriver into the four screws from the top of the trailer. Turn each screw clockwise until they are tight.

    • 9

Slide the wheel chock into the mounting plates. The studs slide into the slot on the left and right plates.

Tips & Warnings

  • Place tie downs on an empty wheel chock in a trailer or truck to hold them in place or remove the chock by sliding it out backward.

  • Centering a wheel chock in a trailer or truck will balance the bike in the center while the vehicle is moving. This keeps weight distribution in the center of the vehicle so there is less chance of the bike moving side-to-side in sharp turns.
