Step-by-Step on How to Draw Realistic Car Flames
Drawing realistic flames can be a challenge for even the most accomplished artists. Real flames constantly flicker and move, which can be difficult to portray through your drawing. However, the different shapes and forms flames adopt make them an interesting subject to draw. Adding realistic flames to your car drawing can create a hot rod style and give your car its own personality. With a little practice, you can draw flames to decorate your car drawings.

1
Collect some images of flames. Drawing realistic flames can be difficult; take the time to familiarize yourself with the different shapes and color that flames take on. This will provide you with a good understanding of different types of flames and may even inspire your final design.

2
Draw the basic outline of your flames. Choose where you want your flames to be positioned, for example the side or hood of the car; and draw a simple outline. Focus on the shape and not the detail, as this will only form the shell of your flames.

3
Develop your flames, adding detail to the design. The large outline alone will look too simple and unrealistic. Build up your flame design by adding a series of layers within the outline to represent the different levels of heat and color present in a real flame. To depict the movement of real flames, try extending your design in an "S" shape or drawing smaller flames coming off the original design.

4
Choose a selection of warm colors, such as reds and oranges, to give your flames a realistic appearance. Real flames change color with the intensity of their heat. Use a different color for the outer shell and the inside detail. The center of a flame is usually colored blue, with the outsides orange or red. You do not have to stick to these colors; use your imagination to add a personal touch to your flames.
