How to Set Up Thunderbird for Microsoft Exchange
Thunderbird is an open-source email program from Mozilla. It works on PCs and Macs. Thunderbird does not offer native support for Microsoft Exchange Server, but if your system administrator has the server set up for IMAP, Thunderbird will work with it.

Contact your system administrator. Verify that the Exchange Server is configured for IMAP email.

Open Thunderbird.

Go to "Tools > Accounts."

Click "Account Actions."

Select "Add Mail Account."

Enter your email account information. Click "Continue."

Click "Stop" to keep Thunderbird from automatically looking up account information. You need to do this in order to properly configure Thunderbird.

Click "Manual Setup."

Get your server name and port number from your system administrator. Enter them on the Server Settings page.

Choose "Outgoing Server" from the left-hand pane. Click "Add."

Enter the description, server name, port and necessary security information.

Tips & Warnings
POP email means your email program will check the inbox of the email server and download new messages to your local mailbox. IMAP email means your local email program reads email directly from the email server.
