How to Change Outlook Express Spell Check From French to English
If you install the 2007 Microsoft Office system or Office 2010 and find that you no longer have spell-checking capabilities in English, Spanish or German in Outlook Express 6.0, Microsoft is aware of the problem. They cover it in their Help and Support Article ID 932974. The old spelling-checker files are replaced with newer versions included with the 2007 Office system. However, the new files are not compatible with Outlook Express. This is why the Outlook Express spell checker suddenly appears in French rather than English.

Click the "Download now" button on the "Windows Live Mail 2011" page if all the above is to your satisfaction.Choose to "Save File" or "Cancel." Navigate to where you want to save the file if you choose the former.

Locate the file, which is called "wlsetup-web," and double click it. Choose either "Install all of Windows Live Essentials (recommended)" or "Choose the programs you want to install." Follow on-screen prompts. Reboot if necessary.

Web Developers Notesoffers a different approach to solving this problem. The advice is to reinstall the older proofing tools from the Office 2003 CD using a custom install option.

I tried Windows Mail and found I preferred Outlook Express, so I went back to Outlook Express and then dug out my Office 2003 CD. I started the installer, chose a custom install, and deselected everything except the Proofing Tools. After the installation, spell check worked properly again in Outlook Express and still worked correctly in all the Office 2007 apps
