You can install an LCD TV in your bathroom in just a few basic steps.

LCD and other types of HDTVs are the devices of choice for many TV enthusiasts, as many prefer the superior picture and sound quality that they can offer. While LCD TVs are most typically used in living rooms and bedrooms, with a little bit of technical know-how, care for the hazards, and a few basic steps, you can enjoy LCD TV picture quality in your bathroom or any other room in your home.

Instructions

Locate a coaxial cable outlet. Most homes will not have a cable outlet installed in the bathroom, so you may need to contact your cable provider and have them install a cable "drop" in your bathroom. Alternatively, you can use a coaxial cable splitter to run a second coaxial cable off of a cable outlet that is already being used in another room.

Install the right LCD TV in your bathroom. Manufacturers now offer LCD TVs that are waterproof and designed for mounting in kitchens, bathrooms, or other places where there's a risk the TV will contact water. Standard LCD TVs are not designed to contact water, so there are definite safety concerns with using one in a bathroom. Examples include the Aquatic AV, the Nanov NGLT150WPA, or the Aquavision AVF17W-45. See resources section for more information.

Attach the coaxial cable from the wall outlet or splitter you are using for the bathroom connection to the LCD TV's coaxial input. Screw on the coaxial cable connector until it is just hand-tight. Power the TV on, and you are ready to begin watching your LCD TV in your bathroom.

Tips & Warnings

  • Because you will be using a TV in a bathroom, the likelihood of the TV coming into contact with water is very high, and this can be quite dangerous. It would be very wise to consult an electrician, home theater installation professional, or both, and have them install the TV and its wires in a way that minimizes its exposure to water. The peace of mind of knowing that you will be able to enjoy TV in the bathroom without the risk of electrocution will be well worth the charges.
