How to Plug CardReader Into the Motherboard
Multi-functional card readers are very popular and useful components to have in a desktop computer. With a multi-function card reader installed, the computer is able to read and write to camera cards of nearly every type. These card readers come in two varieties, internal and external. The external card readers are USB-based and plug into a USB port on the computer. Internal card readers are also USB-based, but they plug into a special set of pins on the motherboard.

Power off the computer.

Remove the side cover of the computer case by removing the screws or moving a lever on the case, depending on the case type.

Insert the card reader into a 3.5-inch slot and fasten it to the case with screws.

Connect the card reader to the motherboard by plugging it into the internal USB pins on the motherboard. The internal USB header on a motherboard is two rows of pins. One row contains five pins and the second row contains four pins.

Replace the computer case side cover and power on the computer.

Tips & Warnings
The operating system automatically recognizes the installed card reader because it is a standard USB device.
