How to Overclock an Asus P5PE-VM

The Asus P5PE-VM motherboard has a BIOS that allows you to overclock a processor by manipulating the chipset parameters. Overclocking involves making the processor run at a speed higher than originally specified by the manufacturer. Overclocking occurs when you modify the CPU's multiplier, which tells the CPU how much faster to run above the motherboard's front side bus (FSB) specification.

Instructions

    • 1

Start up your computer but do not let it boot normally into your operating system. Press the "Delete" or "F1" key on your keyboard to access the BIOS menu. If you cannot access the BIOS menu through these keys, watch the startup splash screen for the key that your computer tells you to press to enter setup and press it.

    • 2

Navigate to "Advanced" using your keyboard's arrow keys and select "Chipset Features."

    • 3

Select "CPU Multiple Level" and press "Enter" on your keyboard.

    • 4

Select a value slightly above the default value set by your motherboard and press "Enter."

    • 5

Press "F10" to exit the BIOS configuration screen and save your settings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Overclocking your CPU might produce dangerous heat levels, especially when you choose a high CPU multiplier. Do not multiply your CPU far above the original specification or you might damage or destroy the processor on your computer.
