Free your kitchen counters from clutter by installing spacesaver appliances under the cabinets.

Regardless of how you plan, the kitchen counter always seems to not have enough space for all the appliances you use daily. One way to solve that problem is by purchasing spacesaver appliances that can be mounted under the cabinets. A spacesaver toaster oven offers more flexibility than a conventional toaster. It can properly toast bagels and breads like a regular toaster, but it also offers the capability of reheating a slice of pizza, broiling a steak or cooking a small chicken. Mounting a spacesaver appliance is an easy enough process, especially if you have someone to help you hold things in place while you screw the item into its designated location. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the location of the appliance, making sure the location is within reach of an electrical outlet and not over a range or oven, near the sink, or near any under-cabinet lighting fixtures.

    • 2

Determine your cabinet type. Cabinets are either flat-bottom or have an overhang on the front of the cabinet. Mounting will be different for each type. Clean the countertop underneath the installation area. If you have an overhanging front, go to Section 2.

    • 3

Open the cabinet door and place the mounting template flush against the surface of the underside of the cabinet, making certain to align the thick line on the template with the bottom front edge of the cabinet. Bend the template at the thick line, pull the template tight and tape it into place with the part above the thick line taped to the front of the cabinet, the rest of the template taped underneath.

    • 4

Drill four holes from under the cabinets up, using a 1/4-inch drill bit. Remove the tape and mounting template. Clear away any debris. Place a washer inside the cabinet over each hole.

    • 5

Remove the hood from the toaster oven for easier installation. Pull forward gently on the hood to release the front hooks. The back hooks should easily disengage.

    • 6

Align the front of the hood with the front edge of the cabinet. Screwing from the inside of the cabinet down, tighten the four screws into place to mount the hood on the cabinet.

    • 7

Lift the toaster oven into place, engaging the rear hooks first.

    Overhanging Lip Cabinets

    • 8

Measure the thickness of the overhang from front to back. Look at the lines on the template to get the proper measurement.

    • 9

Open the cabinet doors and place the line you've chosen on the template even with the bottom front edge of the cabinet. Tape the template in place against the overhanging lip of the cabinet.

    • 10

Bend the remainder of the template back against the underside of the cabinet and tape into place.

    • 11

Drill four holes from under the cabinets up, using a 1/4-inch drill bit. Remove the tape and mounting template. Clear away any debris. Place a washer inside the cabinet over each hole.

    • 12

Measure the length of the overhang by placing the ruler vertically from the underside of the cabinet behind the overhang. Add a spacer to each screw in accordance to the height of the overhang. For example, if you have an overhang of one inch, you would use two 1/2-inch spacers on each screw. Have someone hold the spacers on the screws while you install the hood.

    • 13

Complete the installation by following steps 5-7 in Section 1.

Tips & Warnings
