How to Buy Additional Memory for a Brother Laser Printer
Memory is an essential component to laserjet printers -- adding more can make the printer perform faster if you print multiple large documents on a regular basis and you are constantly waiting for the computer to send the print job to the printer. The printer can store only as much of the document as it has available memory. If you increase the memory, the printer can handle more documents and free up your computer for other tasks.

1
Determine how much memory your printer can accept; each printer is designed to allow a finite amount of memory. So if you try to install more memory than the printer can recognize, it will not work.
-
2
Look in the documentation that came with the printer; this will tell you how much memory the model can hold.
-
-
3
Purchase the memory from Brother, as this will guarantee compatibility with your system. Order as much memory as your system can use. This will give the best performance.
-
4
Open the memory door on the side or rear of the unit, by removing the two screws. The user's manual will stipulate where to find it.
-
5
Turn the printer off, and unplug it from the electrical outlet. Since we are handling material that is susceptible to static electrical damage, use an anti-static wrist strap that is attached to the metal frame of the printer. This will ground you to the unit and prevent static electricity.
-
6
Insert the memory carefully into the available slots; this memory is keyed, which means it can only go in one way. Once inserted, it will "click" into place.
-
7
Close the door, reinsert the screws, and turn the printer back on. The printer will go through an automatic configuration process and recognize the memory. The memory now has been upgraded and is ready to use.
