How to Use Apprentice for MTG With a Router
The Apprentice program provides a framework for playing online Magic: The Gathering (MTG) card games. When you play online against other opponents through the Apprentice software, you need to connect over a network. Some router configurations may not allow this connection initially, preventing you from participating in online matches. You can fix the configuration of your router to play opponents in Magic: The Gathering through Apprentice.

1
Open Apprentice.
-
2
Click "File," then "New Game." Choose "Connect to Opponent." Select and copy the number listed next to "My Current IP."
-
-
3
Open your web browser and type the IP to your router in the address box and hit "Enter." If you don't know your router IP, you can use online services for determining a number of common router IPs or change the last set of numbers on your IP to a "1."
-
4
Log into the administration panel on your router. Look for an advanced, application port, or port forwarding section, in your router configuration screen. Each company's router configuration panel is laid out differently, so you may need to click each menu option until you find the proper section.
-
5
Enable port forwarding in the menu. Name the port forwarding "Apprentice" if needed. Choose "TCP" for the networking protocol option. Put the IP address you copied into the private ID field. Change the port to "4747." Save your changes. You may need to repeat this process in the firewall section of your router.
