How to Put an Edge Molding on a Concrete Counter Top
Installing a concrete counter top often requires the installation of concrete edge molding, which is a strip of concrete created by attaching a form to the front of the counter. Once the strip is attached, you can fill the form with concrete that sets into the desired edge shape, replacing the existing counter edge. Using a pre-shaped form allows for the creation of complicated edges, customizing concrete counters to make anything from a rough rustic-looking edge to a gentle curve suitable for polishing. Because the edge uses the same concrete as the counter, it binds strongly with the counter top, becoming an extension of the counter material and lasting just as long as the counter. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Form brace
- Screws
- Form liner
- Concrete
- Electric drill
- Paddle bit attachment
- Trowel
Instructions

1
Attach to the counter top the form brace used to hold the edge molding form liner in place. Screw the form brace beneath the counter, attached to the cabinet or counter base so that the form lies level with the edge of the counter top.
-
2
Place the form line into the brace. The liner holds the concrete forming the edge molding in place as it sets against the edge of the counter top and provides the shape of the edging.

3
Mix the concrete in a large bucket using an electric drill with a paddle bit attachment. Add enough water to the mix to create a thick consistency that's spreadable while remaining somewhat stiff. Add desired coloring or aggregates during the mixing process.
-
4
Fill the form liner with the concrete, spreading the concrete throughout the form against the liner until the level in the form is even with that of the counter top. Use a trowel to pack the concrete in fully, tapping on the edge of the form brace to settle the concrete and remove any air bubbles in the mixture. Allow the concrete to set overnight.
-
5
Remove the form brace and peel the liner from the edge of the concrete, taking care not to scratch the molding. Allow the concrete to finish curing completely according to the manufacturer's instructions.
