How to Create Garden Edgings With Concrete Molds
Garden borders create visual definition in your garden by separating your flower beds from the grass. A sharp line between these two areas gives structure to your yard and makes it look more professionally landscaped. Garden borders also keep weeds and grass from creeping into your flower or vegetable garden. There are a number of options for creating a border, including brick, tile and stone. Things You'll Need
- Concrete edging mold
- Cooking oil
- Pre-mix concrete
- Water
- Small bucket
- Trowel
- Plastic tarp
- Putty knife
- Concrete sealant
- Paintbrush

Place the mold on a level work surface. Dip a paper towel into cooking oil and rub it on the inside of each mold. This will prevent the concrete from sticking.

Add water to the concrete according to the manufacturer's instructions. When mixed, the concrete should have a consistency similar to peanut butter.

Scoop the concrete into the molds with a small bucket. Run a trowel over the concrete to make the top smooth and level. . Allow the concrete to cure for 48 hours.

Place a towel on a table top and turn the mold over on the towel. Shake the mold to release the concrete.

Move the concrete edging into an out-of-the-way location and set it on a tarp. Cover the edging with another tarp and let it set for seven days.

Paint the edging with a thin layer of concrete sealer to protect it from water damage and stains.

Tips & Warnings
Alter the edging's color by adding concrete colorant to the pre-mixed concrete before adding the water.
