How to Build a Hammock Frame
A hammock is a sling that is tied at both ends so it is suspended above the ground. This comfortable, relatively inexpensive piece of outdoor furniture has been around for hundreds of years. All you need to set up your hammock is two large trees that just happen to be separated by the length of your hammock. If you don't have this particular arrangement, you can build a hammock stand, allowing you to relax anytime the mood strikes you. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need
- 5 treated posts (4 inches by 4 inches by 6 feet)
- Treated post (4 inches by 4 inches by 10 feet)
- Circular saw
- Pencil
- Heavy-duty drill with hex driver bit
- 6-inch lag bolts
- Hammock
- Work gloves
- Safety glasses

Adjust the blade guard on your circular saw so it will cut at a 45-degree angle. Cut a 6-foot post in half with your angled saw. Set the angled pieces aside for later installation.

Place the end of a 6-foot post centered with another 6-foot post, with both boards being perpendicular to each other. Use the hex bit on your drill to drive two lag bolts through the side of one post and into the end of the other to form a T. Make a second T with your remaining 6-foot posts.

Lay the 10-foot post between the T assemblies. Stand both T frames on their wide board. Center the 10-foot post on each perpendicular 6-foot post. Drive two lag bolts through each 6-foot post into one end of the 10-foot post.

Place the 45-degree cut on one short post beside the top of the 10-foot board. Run your pencil along the inside edge of the upright post where the short post crosses it. Adjust your saw to make 90-degree cuts. Cut along your pencil mark to get an angle on that end of the short post.
Place an angled end of the short post on the 10-foot post and the other angle on the upright post of the assembly to brace that side. Mark, cut and fasten the remaining short post on the other side of the assembly to complete the bracing.

Adjust your saw to a 45-degree cut. Adjust the guard on the saw so only 2 inches of blade shows beneath the guard. Cut a downward notch into the outside edge, each upright 6 inches from the top of each post. Tie one end of the hammock onto each notch in the upright posts to mount your hammock to the frame.
