How to Change the Encryption Code for a Wireless

Most wireless routers allow you to choose different types of encryption for your wireless broadcasting. This feature is in place to provide a broad range of compatibility, as some devices may only support one particular type of wireless encryption. You can switch your encryption method using the control panel or software for your wireless router in order to accommodate your home networking setup and all of the devices using it.

Instructions

Open up your Internet browser, then type the router's IP address into the address bar. Router IP numbers vary by manufacturer, and you can use lists of common router IP numbers to find yours if you don't know it (see Resources). Press the "Enter" key on your keyboard. Enter the login and password for your router.

Look for the "Wireless" or "Wireless Security" section. Each router company uses its own back-end panel to manage the router configuration, so you might need to click through a few menus before you find the proper options. Other options to look for include "encryption" or "security."
