How to Ping a Verizon Internet Account for Speed

A ping test allows you to test the connection speed of your Verizon Internet Account. This test allows you to determine how quickly data moves between your computer, the servers, and back again. It's a good idea to shut down all of your open applications when you perform this diagnostic test.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button in the bottom-left corner of the desktop. Click "Run" and type "Cmd" in the field that appears. If your are using Windows Vista or 7, type "Cmd" in the search box above the "Start" button. Press your "Enter" key.

    • 2

Type "ping www.verizon.net" or "ping 206.46.189.11" (without the quotes). Press your "Enter" key. This will force the system to ping Verizon Internet Account. The results will appear in the command window.

    • 3

View the results that read "Reply from 206.46.189.11: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=249" or something similar. The test will be performed a few times, so you will see a few lines of the same information. If the test was not successful, you will see a message that reads: "Request Timed Out."

    • 4

Repeat the ping test again after you update or troubleshoot your system. Compare the "time=40ms" portion of the tests. If the number decreases, your computer speed has increased.
