Instructions

    • 1

Start Pinnacle Studio 12. Click on "1 Capture" tab and select from three import or capture options: Videotape or video source, data disc or memory card and Video DVD.

Select the first option if you intend to capture from a DV, HDV or VHS camera, or directly from a web-cam. If you have a camera or device that uses a hard disk drive, select the second option. The final option is to capture from a non-copy protected DVD.

    • 2

Click on the "Video tape or video source" in the capture options list and "Start capture" to begin recording. Click "Settings" and change the capture source, format and video and audio preferences if they are not correct.

Select the hard disk drive in the second option "Data disc or memory card" if you wish to import video and photos from this device.

"Video DVD" allows you to choose the DVD disc from the drive and select the files you wish to import onto your computer's hard drive.

    • 3

Click on the "2 Edit" tab and on the white folder icon with the caption "Select video files from a different folder." Select the "My Videos" folder, or the location where you store your captured videos.

    • 4

Drag the video thumbnail(s) into the horizontal project window that looks like a filmstrip. This displays clips in order of appearance.

Drag and drop any clip to the left or the right of another clip to change their order.

Click on the "Timeline view" icon underneath the monitor window if the "Storyboad view" is currently displayed to display separate video, audio and other tracks.

    • 5

Click and drag on the orange horizontal time-line bar to change the unit of time measurements to show either more or less time on the time-line.

    • 6

Click the right mouse button on the sound track to bring up a menu.

"Add marker at scrubber location" puts a marker on the orange line. Moving these up or down will raise the line between that marker and the next. This becomes effective when manipulating the volume of the track in different areas, manually fading in/out sound or muting.

    • 7

Move the mouse cursor to the beginning or end of the clip in the time-line. Click and drag the clip to the left or right to shorten or lengthen the clip. It cannot be lengthened longer than the original video file imported.

    • 8

Click the razor tool icon that looks like a blade to splice selected video clips.

    • 9

Click the icon that looks like a camera. Click the folder icon to open the Windows menu. Open the "My pictures" folder to choose images. Click and drag the image(s) to the time-line.

    • 10

Select the transition icon (second icon down on the left). Drag the transition you require to the appropriate section of the video track or secondary visual track in the time-line.

Fade-in and fade-out transitions can be added to the audio tracks. Transition length can be altered by stretching/shrinking the clip changing the speed of the effect.

    • 11

Select the speaker icon or the treble clef to insert additional audio.

    • 12

      Save your project.

Click on the "3 Make movie" tab.

Choose the file type: Windows media, .AVI, .MOV, etc. and the presets that affect the quality and size of the video. If you wish to burn directly to a DVD, click "Settings" and the "Make disc" tab.

      Click "Create file..."
