Kelly Blue Book offers values for new and used cars.

You can use the Kelly Blue Book to calculate the value of both new and used cars. The easiest and fastest way to access the Blue Book is to go to its website at www.kbb.com. The method for calculating the value of a car will depend on whether you are interested in a new car or a used car.

Instructions

  1. New Car

    • 1

Click "Make & Model" on the website to find the car you for which you want a value. Alternately, you can choose a category of car, such as a sedan, wagon or hybrid car.

    • 2

Use the drop-down menus to select both the make and model and then click "Go."

    • 3

Select the year of the car if there is more than one, and then click "Pricing."

    • 4

Select the trim--for example, transmission type--and number of doors. This will take you to a page on which a picture of a representative model of the car appears with the "Fair Purchase Price" listed.

    Used Car

    • 5

Click "Year, Make & Model" under the Used Car tab. Alternately, you can choose the category of car, such as a SUV, pickup or luxury.

    • 6

Use the drop-down menu to choose year, make and model. This will bring you to a page where you must choose between three options: Trade in Value, Private Party Value and Suggested Retail Value.

    • 7

Choose the option that best suits your purpose. For instance, if you plan to sale a vehicle using a classified ad, you would choose "Private Party Value," but if you are preparing to buy a car from a used car lot, you would choose "Suggested Retail Value."

    • 8

Select trim, for example transmission type and number of doors. This will take you to a page labeled "Equipment," where you will have to identify the features of the car and indicate mileage.

    • 9

Check all the options that apply to the car and then click "Continue" to get the value. If you chose "Private Party Value," you will get three values: Fair, Good and Excellent.
