How to Beat a 150CC on "Mario Kart" for the DS
"Mario Kart DS" brings the Nintendo racing series "Mario Kart" to the hand-held Nintendo DS system. Players select from a variety of well-known Nintendo characters and race around a number of tracks, using power-ups and speed boosts to propel their kart to victory. The game can be played at three different speeds: 50cc, 100cc and 150cc. 150cc is the fastest game mode, and the computer's difficulty is also increased, making this the most challenging game mode to complete.

1
Begin a new game and select "150cc Grand Prix."
-
2
Select your character. Lighter characters, like Toad and Yoshi, will accelerate faster and have sharper controls. Heavy characters, like Bowser and Donkey Kong, accelerate slower and have looser controls but can knock smaller opponents into a spin on collision. Medium characters, like Mario and Luigi, are a balanced mix of the two.

3
Select the cup you would like to enter and start a race.
-
4
Press "A" at the exact same time the light turns green at the start of the race to get a speed boost out of the gate. Use the tones and the two red lights that lead up to the green to time it right.
-
5
Drive through the spinning question-mark cubes whenever you can to receive one of a number of items. Use any item you have if you see an upcoming cube so you don't waste the opportunity to pick up another one.
-
6
Press and hold "R" when going into a turn. The kart will hop and start sliding. Quickly press the directional pad away from the turn and then back into the turn while still holding "R." Blue sparks will fly from the back of the kart. Press away and then back into the turn one more time to make orange sparks appear, then release "R." Your kart will receive a brief speed boost. This is called "power sliding."
-
7
Drive at an angle towards the side of the track during long straightaways and power slide to shoot your kart back toward the center. Repeat this process on the opposite side to "snake" back and forth along straightaways with power slides.
