How to Play 'Battlefield 2' on Windows Vista

Released in 2005, "Battlefield 2" is an online action game with a modern warfare theme. Previous games in the "Battlefield" series featured historical settings, and "Battlefield 2" was the first game in the series to be set in the present day. "Battlefield 2" was released prior to Windows Vista, and may experience problems with the operating system's security features. You can play "Battlefield 2" in Windows Vista by downloading and installing the latest patch for the game and disabling some of the security features of Vista.

      Download and install the version 1.41 patch for "Battlefield 2" (see first link in Resources). Save the file "BF2_Patch_1.41.exe" to the desktop, double-click it and follow the prompts to install the patch. If you have already updated "Battlefield 2" to version 1.41, skip this step.

      Download and install the version 1.5 patch for "Battlefield 2" (see second link in Resources). Run the game after installing the patch. If you continue to experience a problem, continue to the next step. Skip this step if you are already running "Battlefield 2" version 1.5.

      Right-click the shortcut for "Battlefield 2" and click "Properties."

      Click the "Compatibility" tab. Click the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" check box, then click the drop-down menu and select "Windows XP."

      Click the "Run this program as an administrator" check box.

      Click "OK" and attempt to run "Battlefield 2." If you continue to experience a problem, go to the next step.

      Click the "Start" button, and then click "Control Panel."
