iPhone contacts added to an online program can be edited from your computer.

iPhone users can accrue a lot of contact information over the life of their phone. Backing up contact phone numbers and email addresses to another location can be helpful in the event that the iPhone is lost or broken, or if users simply get a new cell phone. Luckily, iPhone contact information can be transferred to another location quite easily.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your iPhone to your computer and open the iTunes program.

    • 2

Locate your iPhone device on the left-side toolbar in iTunes. Highlight the name of the device by clicking on it once, and then select the "Info" tab along the top of the screen.

    • 3

Check the box next to "Sync Contacts" and select the program that you want to sync your iPhone with. iPhone contacts can be synced with Outlook, Google Contacts, Windows Contacts or Yahoo! Address Book. The latter three programs can be signed up for online at no charge.

    • 4

Click on "Apply" in the bottom right corner of the screen to begin the sync process. Your iPhone contacts will be transferred to the online program that you've chosen.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also send a single contact's information via email or text message by going in the contact on your iPhone and selecting "Share Contact."

  • After you initiate a sync, each time you plug in your phone any alterations that you have made to contacts on your phone will automatically be applied to your computer, and vice versa. If you do not want changes to be automatically applied, make sure to uncheck the "Sync" box in iTunes.
