Instructions

    • 1

Mix the baking soda with some warm water. Wash your hair with the baking soda paste and rinse. This cleanses the hair of product build-up, leaving it light and bouncy.

    • 2

Use a wide-tooth comb or hair pick to get the tangles out of your wet hair. Using a brush can damage the hair and cause it to be pulled out.

    • 3

Pour a natural hair volumizer, such as coconut milk, into a spray bottle. Spray this on your hair before styling or blow drying. Coconut milk coats the hair shaft and naturally makes it feel thicker.

    • 4

Perform a quick blow-dry by lifting hair sections toward the sky with your brush, focusing the heat on the roots. This dries the hair in an upright and lifted position, giving the appearance of fullness and bounce. Leave your hair a little damp.

    • 5

Separate your damp hair into large sections. Roll each section onto a large Velcro roller and pin it to your head. Dry your hair completely with the hair dryer. Undo the rollers and shake out your hair, running your fingers through it instead of brushing it.

Use a little backbrushing to give your hair a lifted look. Take a flat-backed brush and lightly tease the underside of the roots. Then brush the top strands over to give it a smooth appearance. A brush works better than a comb for this because its bristles are more widely spaced and therefore less damaging.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your hair clean; when it gets oily, it will look weighed down and thin. If you're using a pomade or hair smoothing product, apply it to the ends of your hair only -- using it on the roots will make your hair look flat and greasy. When using rollers, remember that large rollers give the hair body and fullness without curl, medium rollers create waviness and small rollers make hair curly.
