How to Disable the Logon Screen in Windows XP Professional

When you turn on your Windows XP Professional computer and the operating system boots up, you are normally brought to a user selection screen where you have to choose what user account you want to log in with, and then type in the password for the user account. You can skip the password logon process by changing the options of your system so it doesn't require a password to log in. This does, however, have a deleterious effect on your computer's security, since anyone can access your user account if they have physical or network access to your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "Start."

    • 2

      Click "Run."

    • 3

      Type "control userpasswords2."

    • 4

      Press "Enter."

    • 5

Uncheck the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" option, and then click "OK" to disable the logon screen.
