How to Size a Tree Saddle

Measure your saddle carefully.

No matter what style riding your prefer or what kind of horse you own, your rides will be safer and more secure with properly fitted tack. A saddle that fits your body and your horse will make you more secure in the saddle and make your mount more comfortable. The best way to ensure proper fit is to measure the saddle seat, but it is important to remember that the measurement procedures are different for treed and treeless saddles.

Things You'll Need

• Saddle stand
• Measuring tape

Instructions

1. Place the saddle on a sturdy saddle stand or rack.

2. Position the measuring tape on the silver disk at the front of the English saddle. For a western saddle, place the measuring tape just behind the saddle horn.

3. Extend the measuring tape to the back of the saddle seat and take your measurement. This is the seat size of the saddle.
