Embed a Font in Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign is a desktop publishing program that allows you to export your projects to PDF format. This is a very useful feature, allowing you to both share your documents with non-InDesign users and send them away to an off-site printing service. InDesign will, by default, embed just the necessary characters for all the fonts you use, so that your PDF will look the same on someone else's computer, but some printers require you to embed the entire font in the PDF.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your project in Adobe InDesign. Click the "File" drop-down menu, select "Export..." and choose "PDF" as your export format. Browse to the location of your choice, enter a filename, and click "Save."

    • 2

Click on the "Advanced" tab of the PDF export options window. Change the percentage in the "Subset fonts when percent of characters used is less than:" number field from 100 to 0. Now InDesign will be forced to embed the entire font in your exported PDF document.

    • 3

Click the "Export" button. Your PDF containing the entire font file for each typeface you used will be saved to the location specified.
