How to Fix Suede Fringe
Suede fringe is a type of fringe made from suede. The suede is cut into a long strip, then the strip is partially split repeatedly to create the fringe pieces. The fringe is then attached to another object, such as a vest or chaps. Fixing torn or damaged suede fringe is a simple process that starts with cleaning. Clean suede looks better than dirty suede at any time. This project will take around two or three hours to complete. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the suede before employing any other repair methods. Brush the suede with a horsehair brush to eliminate dust, dirt and even some oil.
-
2
Place the fringed object inside the washing machine. Wash the fringe on the gentle setting in cold water. Use a gentle soap, such as body soap designed for sensitive skin. Lay the fringe out flat to dry when the machine is finished.

3
Inspect the fringe for signs of damage. Note where the most damage is present. Repairing damage to where the fringe attaches to the clothing is different than repairing the fringes themselves or repairing a tear in the non-fringed area of the fringe.
-
4
If the fringe itself is torn, sew the torn fringe piece back on the main fringe piece using the whip stitch. This brings the pieces together and makes it almost impossible to tell a problem occurred without inspecting the fringe closely. Sew any areas where the fringe is torn in the same manner.
-
5
If the torn fringe cannot be repaired, cut damaged fringe pieces away from the rest of the fringe. Check to see what effect cutting the fringe has on the overall outfit. If the cut is noticeable, trim other fringe threads throughout the entire fringe to make the cut seem intentional and part of the design.
-
6
If the fringe is coming loose from the main fabric, sew any gaps with the traditional running stitch. Try to make stitches as small as possible to disguise the seam where the fringe and fabric connect. Use a thread that matches the color of the suede for best results.
