How to Make Pocket Crafts
Pocket crafts are small toys that are small enough to fit right into a child's pocket. You can give pocket crafts to your child as a thoughtful homemade birthday or Christmas gift. These small treasures are convenient and can be carried with your child to doctor's appointments, road trips, supermarket excursions or to a movie theater. You can make your own pocket crafts from materials that can be found at any craft or arts supply store, and they can be put together with minimal effort.
Things You'll Need
- Wool felt sheets
- Scissors
- Embroidery floss
- Sewing needle
- Hot glue gun
- Wool batting
- Wooden bead
Instructions
-
-
1
Place two sheets of felt on top of each other.
-
2
Cut out a tear drop shape from both sheets that are 2-inches long and 1-inch high.
-
-
3
Thread a needle with embroidery floss, and knot the end.
-
4
Sew around the perimeter of the two tear drops with a blanket stitch, keeping them together. Leave tip of the shape unsewn.
-
5
Stuff the structure with wool batting.
-
6
Squeeze a dollop of hot glue onto the open area.
-
7
Press a wooden bead onto the glued area. This will block the opening and will act as the head of the pocket craft gnome.
-
8
Allow the hot glue to cool and harden completely, which can take about 1 minute.
-
9
Wrap a scrap of felt around the bead, and mark it to measure how much felt you need to wrap around the head.
-
10
Cut out a triangle from the felt, making the base as wide as you measured. This will be the cone hat on the pocket gnome.
-
11
Apply a line of hot glue around the circumference of the bead, and wrap the felt triangle around it. Allow the glue to cool and harden.
-
12
Apply a line of glue down the length of the triangle to make the cone sealed. Allow the hat cone to cool completely.
